Last week, Perth’s pre-eminent psych rock outfit released, off the back of their Parklife 2012 touring announcement, the first taste of their forthcoming sophomore album, Lonerism. Arriving in the form of an album trailer (one of 2012’s biggest trends it seems), the collection of kaleidoscopic visuals, tour footage and a brand new audio snippet all pointed to confirmation of album number two.
This morning, we now have the first official single from the highly-anticipated follow-up to Innerspeaker in “Apocalypse Dreams”. Featuring some driving piano lines, 60s-styled atmospherics and Kevin Parker cooing over the kind of fuzzed-out production that threw them to the wider attention of the musical world.
America have certainly been keeping a close watch, and Pitchfork points out that the first official single for Lonerism will in fact be “Elephant”, due later this month. While the proper album release is this October, which coincides nicely with Parklife.
The group’s second LP was again recorded and mixed by Kevin Parker and mixed by psychelicious producer extraordinaire, Dave Fridmann (whose previous CV includes like minded bands: The Flaming Lips, MGMT & Mercury Rev).
In-between their appearances at the sold-out Splendour In The Grass and October’s Parklife – the band have but together an extensive American and EU schedule which keeps them busy until November, which still leaves room for some of the Australian festival season in summer.
Could they be on the next round of Falls Festival announcements? Or part of 2013’s Big Day Out? Whose promoters this morning announced some interesting changes to the iconic music festival.
