Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have announced their engagement after two years of dating.

The couple revealed their engagement through a joint Instagram post featuring carousel photos of them surrounded by flowers and foliage. Their caption read: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” accompanied by the song “So High School” from Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department album.

Kelce proposed with a Kindred Lubeck-designed ring from Artifex Fine Jewelry, featuring an old mine brilliant cut diamond. The choice of “So High School” as their announcement soundtrack carries particular significance, given the lyrics: “Are you gonna marry, kiss, or kill me? It’s just a game, but really.”

Kelce very publicly expressed interest in Swift during his New Heights podcast. “If you’re up on Taylor Swift concerts, there are friendship bracelets, and I received a bunch of them being there,” he said. “But I wanted to give Taylor Swift one with my number on it.”

Swift appreciated Kelce’s bold approach, telling Time in December 2023: “This all started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell. We started hanging out right after that. So we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for, because we got to get to know each other.”

Despite public perception, their first public appearance at a Kansas City Chiefs game in September 2023 wasn’t actually their first date. “By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple,” Swift revealed. “We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date.”

The courtship resonated with Swift’s romantic sensibilities. During a recent podcast appearance, she reflected: “This kind of felt more like I was in an Eighties John Hughes movie, and he was standing outside of my window with boom box, just being like, ‘I want to date you.’ This is sort of what I’ve been writing songs about wanting to happen to me since I was a teenager.”

Kelce has embraced the media attention surrounding their relationship. “Obviously I’ve never dated anyone with that kind of aura about them,” he told The Wall Street Journal. “But at the same time, I’m not running away from any of it.”

Their relationship contrasts sharply with Swift’s previous six-year relationship with actor Joe Alwyn, which ended in 2023 just before the ‘Eras Tour’ launch. That relationship was notably private, with the couple managing to date for nine months before media attention began.
