Now entering its fourth year after cementing itself as one of Brisbane’s most love grassroots music events, the Red Deer Music & Arts Festival is ready to roll for its 2013 edition, boasting its biggest lineup ever and raising the bar with another impressive cast of Australian music’s most exciting bands, DJs, and artists.
Headlining Red Deer Fest is acclaimed indie rock group, The Grates. Having kept themselves busy with their very own homely cafe/late night bar and music venue, the Southside Tea Room (oh, and you know, getting married!), Patience Hodgson and John Patterson will be taking to the Red Deer stage for a very special headline show.
With two ARIA Top 10 Album Awards, Two J Awards, and The AMP glistening atop their epic mantle of records, The Grates will be bringing their festival-honed show with all the fun and panache expected of the band.
Also joining the stampeded towards the base of the D’Aguilar Range will be a host of acts weaving their musical magic, including ex-Beautiful Girls frontman Mat McHugh, with his backing band the Seperatista Soundsystem, acclaimed Melbourne rockers Kingswood, and Sydney hip-hop multi-talent Chance Waters.
Also on the bill are Bobby Alu, Pigeon DJs, The Kite String Tangle, Triple J’s Sarah Howells spinning the decks, Bec Laughton, The Lyrical, Sneeky Picnic, and a whole host more.
Regularly heralded by locals as a vibrant “must see” event, the Red Deer Arts & Music Festival has continued to delight audiences with its keen musical selection and facilities. Including BYO booze and couches to the natural amphitheatre, two majestic stages, free camping, arts workshops, a 4ZZZ live broadcast, and of course, lots of yummy food and beverage choices.
Festival Director Julian De Maria said with tickets selling out in 2012, Red Deer had again expanded in size to cater for the intensifying public thirst for smaller-scale, premium quality alternatives to Australia’s major festivals characterised by treacherous crowds, massive lines and inflated prices.
Perched on the lush site of his parent’s ex-deer farm, De Maria says he and his team were committed to upholding the event’s honesty and integrity. “We strive to deliver a fresh, affordable and relaxed homegrown experience, memorable for its good vibes, pristine setting and uplifting sense of community,” he said.
