After months of chatter, Channel 7 have finally unveiled the trailer for Molly, their upcoming two-part mini-series about Australian music industry legend Ian “Molly” Meldrum, starring Samuel Johnson (The Secret Life of Us) in the title role.

Touted as “the drama event of a lifetime”, the series follows the success of Never Tear Us Apart, Channel 7’s INXS miniseries, which was highly watched and saw the Aussie rock icons experiencing a resurgence in popularity.

The series was executive produced by promoter and fellow industry legend Michael Gudinski and based on Meldrum’s autobiography, The Never, Um … Ever Ending Story, which the Countdown host wrote with journalist Jeff Jenkins.

Judging by the trailer, which readers can check out below, all the juicy and occasionally infamous tales of Molly’s interactions with famous musicians are included in the series, with appearances from KISS, Madonna, the Skyhooks, AC/DC, and more.

According to News Corp, Johnson was hand-picked by Meldrum himself. “I really cannot think of anyone else who could even try to play me,” Meldrum said. Meanwhile, Johnson has stated that playing Meldrum is “the holy grail” of his career, “both creatively and personally”.
