Backwards politicians who have totally outdated and immoral views on issues such as homosexuality, abortion, and religion are nothing new – Australia certainly has its fair share. But honestly, we thought we left the days of Bible bashers going after rock music back in the ’80s.
Some readers will remember televangelist Pat Robertson’s recent bat shit tirade, during which he suggested a mother concerned for her son’s welfare because he was listening to “Devil’s music” ought to give him a “smack around”, but Irish political candidate Susan Anne White takes things to another level.
Coming straight out of some weird inter-dimensional intersection between Footloose and the ’50s, White is a controversial Northern Irish politician currently running to become MP for the county of West Tyrone. At the centre of her platform? Ban rock music.
As the Irish Independent reports, devout Christian and borderline sociopath Mrs White would like to see rock music outlawed, believing that it fuels sexual anarchy and drug use. “There is an ideology which permeates rock music and it is sexual anarchy. It is also linked to drugs,” she said.
According to Dangerous Minds, Mrs White made headlines last year whilst on the campaign trail, singling out rock music once again as one of society’s primary ills and even citing specific groups and artists, presumably ones she saw the last time she entered a record store, in 1992.
“One only has to think of some of those well-known rock groups from the 1970s and 1980s such as Iron Maiden, Alice Cooper and more recently Kurt Cobain,” she said. “The lyrics are promoting immorality, the noise is deafening, and they also promote anarchy.”

“Society has been so desensitised to vulgarity and a lack of God-given talent that these people are thought of as great artists and entertainers when they are nothing of the kind,” she continued.
While her views on rock music are fairly laughable, the rest of her platform is far more sinister. Billed as being “Biblically correct, not politically correct”, Mrs White wants to put an end to abortion and criminalise homosexuality and adultery.
Other highlights include restoring corporal punishment in schools, banning gay pride parades, opposing feminism, abolishing the Equality Commission NI and the Human Rights Commissions NI, opposing “the global warming fanatics and their pseudo-science”, and banning Halal food.
While it’s highly unlikely that White will win (after all, who doesn’t love deafening noise and sexual anarchy?), we at Tone Deaf propose we arm a DeLorean with a flux capacitor and send her back to the 1800s. It’s the best option for everybody.
