For Record Store Day 2014, Jack White gunned his way into the record books with the ‘World’s Fastest Record’ attempt but he’s not the only musician who’s recently made an historic musical attempt.

The Guinness World Record for the most concerts played in multiple cities in 24 hours has been broken, as the US institution confirms that a 22-year-old singer-songwriter claims the new honours and all in the name of a great cause.

American country singer Hunter Hayes is the new World Record title-holder, following the completion of his ’24 Hour Road Race To End Child Hunger’ campaign, as Billboard reports, putting a pretty impressive accolade alongside his four Grammy nominations.

Partnering with Nebraska-based packaged foods company ConAgra Foods, Hayes’ record-breaking run saw him performing 10 shows in 10 cities in 24 hours, surpassing the previous record holders The Flaming Lips’ record of eight shows in 24 hours (in turn pinched from Jay Z’s seven show record of 2006).

“I cannot believe how much fun this whole day has been and that it’s only been a day!” said Hayes in a statement following the honours. “10 shows in 24 hours with the best fans in the world and a great cause with Child Hunger Ends Here. ”

The young musician began his 24 hour record attempt on Friday 9th May, beginning with a New York performance on talk show Good Morning America, before taking in venues at gigs in Boston, Worcester, Providence, New London, New haven, Stamford, South Orange, Asbury Park, Philadelphia, and a post-high school prom performance at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey.

The school prom crowd was filled with the country star’s dedicated fans, or ‘Hayniacs’ as they call themselves, and as with each show, ensured the performer had the required number of attendees to fulfil the Guinness World Records requirements.

Hayes and ConAgra Foods’ “24 Hour Road Race to End Child Hunger” campaign also had the backing of some pretty powerful corporate sponsors, such as concert promoters AEG Live & the Messina Group as well as the likes of Mercedes-Benz USA, Samsung Galaxy, Procter & Gamble, and more.

The world record attempt also acts as a healthy bit of cross-promotion for the young musician’s sophomore album Storyline, released last week and already heading for a #3 debut on the US Charts as Hayes backs up his 24-hour tour with a full fledged national tour.

But before that, how does Hayes plant to celebrate? “Everybody goes to bed,” he joked in a press conference. Fair enough.
