Big changes in the triple j camp. Tom Tilley has announced that he will be taking a three-month break from his Hack hosting duties. Tilley will use his time off to work on an ABC Correspondent assignment and a book, relaxing.

Three journalists, who’ve all received a Walkley Award nod, will replace Tilley during his break. Newsreader Alice Matthews, Hack reporter Avani Dias, and The Feed presenter Laura Murphy-Oates will all be given month-long hosting stints.

Avani Dias will be tackling hosting duties first. Avani has worked as a reporter for Hack, triple j news and ABC TV. This year, she was recognised as a 2019 Walkley Finalist for Young Journalist of the Year for her report on a student who was falsely accused of terrorism.

“Throughout my life, Hack has helped me learn about the world and my place in it,” shared Avani. I care so much about what we cover and experience a lot of it in my own life, so I feel privileged and excited to take over the Hack reins for the next month.”

Alice Matthews has cut her teeth as a news presenter on triple j’s Brekkie show. Matthews was nominated for a 2015 Walkley for Young Journalist of the Year for a report she published on sexual harassment in the medical field.

Laura Murphy-Oates will bring it home with the final hosting slot. Last year, Murphy-Oates won the Walkley for Young Journalist of the Year. Over the past six years, Laura has worked for SBS and NITV, recently she has been recognised for her unparalleled contributions to The Feed.

You can listen to Hack on triple j from 5:30pm weekdays.
