Every week there’s a bunch of music-related stories, links, videos and other internet goodies that are a little on the trashy side, but for whatever reason get everyone in the office talking.
This is what the Tone Deaf Trash Can is all about: it’s our avenue for sharing the funniest, weirdest and downright tackiest music stories of the week to help you keep up to date with the best (and worst) things happening in pop culture. Don’t feel guilty – you’re allowed to enjoy it.
Who Is Paul McCartney And What Is An AC/DC?
It’s 2015 and these are the burning questions of tweens on Twitter – though anyone with a working sarcasm detecter will probably realise that the youngsters are just getting really good at pissing off oldies who still refuse to believe in music that isn’t #rawk.
The generational trolling began earlier this week when Kanye West dropped his seemingly left-field collab track with Paul McCartney, ‘Only One’, to which many cheeky millennials of the Twitterverse begged the question, Who Is Paul McCartney?
Who tf is Paul McCartney is he Jesse McCartney’s dad or something that’s nice that he’s getting his own chance at stardom

I usually don’t pay much attention to Kanye West, but it’s cool he’s launched this ‘Paul McCartney’ dude’s career pic.twitter.com/1iaTOLRkr9

Ew who even is ac (lightning bolt) dc? Some edm trap artist I don’t know? — Erik Ruof (@UrkRuff) January 6, 2015
More old people were pissed off, more media didn’t get the joke, and more trolls got the reaction they were asking for.
Vanilla Ice Really Likes The Australian Family Feud
Continuing to have one of the most confusing post-one hit wonder career paths we’ve ever seen, apparently Vanilla Ice has enough spare time between his home renovation reality TV show t0 watch Australia version of Family Feud.
The American rapper – who’s real name Robert Matthew Van Winkle has even less street cred than a punchline about bacon – caught wind of host Grant Denyer’s impromptu rendition of the infamous 1990 hit ‘Ice Ice Baby’.
Yep, when you thought our 6 o’clock television couldn’t get any whiter, this happened:
Vanilla Ice reposted the video to his 200,000-something followers on Twitter with confusing paragraphing.

That slow drip you can hear in the background is the sound of three decades’ worth of royalties that doesn’t look like drying up anytime soon.
Mac DeMarco’s ‘Old, Stinky Shoes’ Sell For $26,000 On eBay
It was already pretty clear that Mac DeMarco holds the undisputed title of the most loveable goober of indie rock, but in case there were any doubts, someone just bought the Canadian’s sweaty, manky Vans for over $26,000AUD on eBay.
Because Mac is a human Carebear, the proceeds from the auction are going to Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls.
“I’m selling an old pair of my shoes. I’ve John Hancocked [autographed] the left shoe. Will anyone buy an old stinky pair of shoes? I don’t know. lets wait and see. I’ll probably throw some other crap in the box before shipping it, I dunno what,” he wrote in the listing.
He had a cheeky word for the people who have tried to nick them from in in the past, adding: “If you’re one of those kids who tried to take them off my feet while I was crowd surfing at some point this year, nice try jackass. But hey, here’s another opportunity for you to have them.”
If you weren’t the winning cashed-up bidder, maybe you can try your luck at being a shoe-stealing jackass when old mate Mac returns to the country at the end of the month for Laneway.
Pete Doherty Wanted To Get A Warlord’s Daughter To Play Drums With Him In Rehab
No, that isn’t the result of a random Pete Doherty headline generator. (Can someone please make one?)
In a newly published interview with Noisey, The Libertines’ frontman mentioned how he actually tried to get a “warlord’s daughter” to make music with him during his stay at a rehabilitation centre in Thailand.
“I’ve come up with some good riffs…” he said at the time. “Like simple bass lines and I’m trying to get this warlord’s daughter to play drums for me but she’s off the radar at the moment. So hopefully we’ll have some new ideas when Carl next bounds into view in his bandana and leathers.”
While the band plan to release their first album in 11 years in 2015, it’s unclear whether you’ll be hearing the bloodline of an ancient Thai mercenary on it, but we’re still pretty hyped either way.
Doherty recently spoke to Noisey about making music at his current rehabilitation centre in Thailand.
Danny Brown Is Writing A Dr. Seuss-Inspired Children’s Book
Danny Brown, gap-toothed rapper known for his turnt rap anthems about kush comas, smokin’ and drinkin’, revealed that he’s dipping into a new field – children’s books.
The 33-year-old rapper, who’s currently working on the follow-up to his acclaimed 2013 album Old, told Triple J this week he’s also in the middle of making a kid’s book inspired by his 13-year-old daughter and Dr Seuss.
“It’s been taking me forever to finish. It’s really about self-esteem in black girls, I guess,” he said. “You know how black women do so much—process their hair, change their eye color—it’s really about a little girl who does all these things to herself and changes herself and she realizes she’s just better off the way she is.”
He continued saying, “It’s something for my daughter… I want it to be real Dr. Seuss-y… The Grinch,Green Eggs and Ham, and One Fish, Two Fish—what was going on in that guy’s brain to be able to write those things?”
It’s certainly going to be interesting seeing Brown turn down his turnt up lyrics for some PG-rated rhymes.
