Indie folk band Traveller and Fortune have released their self-titled EP, and the Adelaide five piece have certainly created a fusion of charming, heavy instrumental melodies. Their unique sound is somewhat of a mashup between lilting folk, indie sounds, and soul’s bluesy grain – which helps make them stand apart from the typical straight up folk acts.

The wide variety of instruments – from harmonica to dulcimer – used in their music makes for captivating listening, along with the heartfelt, bittersweet vocals and lyrics of their songs.

The track ‘Letters To Japan’, has the most beautiful, enchanting lyrics, the track begins at a slow pace and grows into a catchy, head bopping song. The raw vocals of lead singer Tom West, bring such an edgy feel to the record, but at times feels as though they are not perfectly suited to the backing music.

Traveller and Fortune are a quality not quantity type of band, and this EP provides a perfect example of this mantra. As they continue to define and refine their sound their future releases will surely continue to get better and better.
