A Violent Soho Australian Album Tour 2013 has been announced and though the Brisbane band have just finished kicking ass around the country for a series of album preview shows, tearing apart venues like Sydney’s Brighton Up Bar and Melbourne’s Liberty Social, they have now announced a full-scale album tour to promote the release of their latest record this September.
As the release of their highly anticipated third LP ‘Hungry Ghost’ quickly approaches (out 6th September through I OH YOU) it is with great excitement that today the four friends from Mansfield QLD (4122 forever) who make up Violent Soho announce their Australian headline album tour. The shows will take place this October and see the band play in QLD, NSW, VIC, SA and WA, with Sydney’s Straight Arrows coming along for the ride.
Having exploded back on to the scene around August last year with the release of their much-loved single ‘Tinderbox’, which was then followed up by an equally well received single ‘Neighbour Neighbour’, the band headed out on a sold out headline tour and support tours with The Bronx and Cloud Nothings.
The late 2011 release of double-A side single Tinderbox/Neighbour Neighbour, and a signing to party-starting indie label I OH YOU, displayed a strong return-to-form for the Brisbane four-piece, arriving after they parted ways with Thurston Moore’s Ecstatic Peace label for their Gil Norton-produced eponymous second album.
Now comes their long-awaited third LP, Hungry Ghost, showing that Violent Soho have refused to stop as they continued to work tirelessly and meticulously over the last three years on their latest release. Enlisting the help of producer Bryce Moorhead, “one of the greatest, most underrated producers in Australia… Brisbane’s Steve Albini,” as the band put it, Violent Soho began tracking the album before the finishing polish and mixing job by John Agnello (Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth, The Hold Study) at New Yrok’s Fluxivity Recordings.
After all of this Violent Soho have surfaced with 11 brand new tracks which make up Hungry Ghost (available for preorder at www.violentsoho.com)a record that is drenched in the sweat of Brisbane and one that all who are involved with are incredibly proud of.
Fans were treated to the first taste of the forthcoming LP just over a month ago in the form of the single ‘In The Aisle’ which quickly picked up praise from around the world and also proved to be a crowd favourite at the band’s main stage performance at Splendour in the Grass last month. With Hungry Ghost set for release on the 6th of September and the below run of headline shows, fans of Mansfield’s finest have plenty more to look forward to!
As mentioned, Sydney four piece ‘Straight Arrows’ will be playing as main support on the whole tour and treating punters to their loud, raucous garage punk rock. Having released their critically acclaimed debut LP It’s Happening, Straight Arrows have shared stages with the likes of Thee Oh Sees, Eddy Current Suppression Ring and The Black Lips and will no doubt do a killer job of warming up the stage for the forthcoming tour.
