The “Ugly Christmas Sweater Merch” was a trend that initially started out between metal bands as a quasi joke, but is now long passed the point of irony that it’s become a regular rotation in the likes of many band’s end-of-year merchandise rosters.

The idea of ‘heavy’ bands that are so reliant on serious imagery releasing something as goofy as a christmas themed sweater is a concept that revels in the stark contrast and absurd humour of a cross-knit sweater, adorned with blood and skulls wearing santa hats.

The gimmick is nice, sure, but you have to wonder how much use a Christmas themed holiday sweater will get, especially considering it would only get wear during the latter weeks of December before retiring into the closet until next year. Still, this is apparently a constant market that doesn’t seem to be dying down anytime soon.
