With band members hailing from the UK, Ireland and South Africa, and Japanese producer Nao Anzai at the healm, No Escape For The King still see themselves as an Aussie band, hailing from Melbourne.

In some regards, the album was made as locally as possible; predominately written at Wick Studios, Brunswick, and recorded at Soundpark Studios, Northcote and Birdland Studios, Prahran.

It would seem Australian roots are set quite deep in this record.

Having released two singles from their debut album, ‘In My Bones (Again)‘ and ‘Stuttgart-Upon-Thames‘, only in Australia , the band is now set to also release their full album in the US and Canada before heading off on some interstate tours around Australia this year.

The seemingly odd and unique nature of this band is clearly reflected the new-wave sounding, 13 Fjords.

Though quite an easy-listening record, Matt Cheetham’s rough and distinct vocals help give it that indie/rock sound which has been personally described by the band as ‘snowflakes, maga and mountains of delay’.

With some darker rock sounds, particularly with the guitars in ‘Stuttgart-Upon-Thames’, there are also some slower pieces, such as the last track ‘Kamikaze’, which is quite an interesting and different way to finish of a record.

There has been a line up change since the album’s release, but you can be sure that at the official album launch at the Grace Darling, Collingwood on 2nd March, they will still deliver the big and dynamic sounds that the album portrays.
