Society of Tastemakers & Elegant People are proud to present their latest panel event ‘Melbourne – The Music Capital’. Since launching in mid-2014, STEP has put on a run of successful panel events which have seen the likes of Anthony Fantano, Jen Cloher, Tim Shiel, Oscar Key Sung and many more speak on a variety of issues and topics concerning the music industry.

For the first time since its incarnation, the latest STEP event will see speakers from varied backgrounds speaking to the theme of ‘Melbourne – The Music Capital’. On the panel will be Nick O’Byrne, manager of Milwaukee Banks and Courtney Barnett and Program Director of BIGSOUND, Woody McDonald, 3RRR legend (Primary Colours) and booker of Meredith and Golden Plains, Mikey Cahill, senior music writer at The Herald Sun and previous STEP Jedi Award winner, Simon Winkler, 3RRR Music Director and presenter (Breaking and Entering), and Lucy Buckeridge, Publicist at EMI and singer/bass player of Lowtide.

Performing a DJ set before the panel discussion will be Broadway Sounds – purveyors of the finest kind of Melbourne’s Afro-pop, and local soul darlings The Harpoons will give a special set to close the night.

‘Melbourne – The Music Capital’ discussion will centre around a variety of topics near to Melbourne music lovers’ hearts: how and why it is that our local artists such as Courtney Barnett and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are making it big overseas, the launches and closures of so many small and mid-scale live music venues, the rise of the boutique festival, an insight to Melbourne’s community radio stations, upcoming bands and so much more.
