Tame Impala chief Kevin Parker is renowned for the skill and ease with which he creates hypnotic, hazy spirals of psychedelic noise, so it’s only right that he be the man to ask when you need a sleep-inducing bedtime mixtape.

As NME reports, Parker recently did just that, providing a ‘Bedtime Mix’ for Phil Taggart’s BBC Radio One show, as part of an ongoing feature that tasks prominent musicians with creating a crepuscular soundtrack for bedtime.

“Not that I even get that much time to listen to relaxing music,” Parker told the host. “I think I don’t give myself the opportunity enough to zone out with a chilled out playlist.”

“Making a chilled-out playlist is not something I do regularly, so having been asked to do it, I’m looking back at the playlist now, and I may actually put this on tonight when I go to bed.”

The 30-minute mix includes some choice selections from the likes of Panda Bear, Air, King Crimson, Frank Ocean, Kraftwerk, Gotye, and The Flaming Lips, with parker remarking on Frank Ocean’s ‘Thinkin Bout You’ as a particular “favourite”.

Parker also touched on the importance of ‘Autobahn’ by Kraftwerk, saying, “That song, we were driving back from a festival once and one of us was driving. We actually had to turn it off because the driver was starting to nod off. It’s that hypnotic and immersive.”
