Local talent Kita Alexander has been capturing hearts and attention with the release of her stunning new EP Like You Want. Following on from singles ‘My Own Way’ and ‘Like You Want To’ the EP comes as while kits has been touring with local legends Jarryd James and Meg Mac.

For those uninitiated, Kita’s journey started, predictably enough, on the water. She was born in Brisbane, but grew up on her mother’s avocado farm in the remote beachside town of Port Macquarie on Australia’s east coast. (It takes about 40 minutes just to drive to her front gate.)

It was an idyllic childhood spent surfing at the beach, hanging out with friends and listening to staples of every parents’ record collection: Queen, Tom Petty, Patti Smith, and Fleetwood Mac. Her music obsession led her to pick up a guitar, aged eight. “When I first started writing it was just me and my guitar, so Fleetwood Mac’s Landslide and Songbird were really big influences for me.”

These influences are clearly seen thought the record and to celebrate the release of this impressive EP, Kita has given us a track by track run down of the record which you can check out below. If you like what you’re hearing be sure to visit her Facebook page for more info.

Like You Want To

I know I’m always afraid to say how I really feel, whether it be in a relationship or what I want for lunch. I’m worried about making a fuss. So I wanted to write a song which was a bit of a reminder to never filter how you feel, just to say it like you want to.

Plain Sight

I had a big couple of weeks in the studio and was feeling stressed when I rocked up to this session, I didn’t have anything prepared. The producer Mikey Keenan (now one my closest friends) asked me what I did when I last hung out with my friends. I told him and he said great write that all down, pick up your guitar and write a good song. The first words that came out of my mouth were what stuck, and we went with the flow of it.

Wild Heart

I was in London at the end of last year, It was another gloomy and miserable day. It was my first session working with a producer AND a topliner… It felt like a party. So I said to them let’s write a real feel good tune and let’s have fun.

High Tops

I was in the studio for a week with my buddies Rudy and Elliott from the Delta Riggs. We all had a bit of a blank one day I was frustrated so I went for a run, came back into the studio running in my converse, Elliott and I both looked down at my shoes and we’re like yeahhhhhh lets write about these babies haha. A testament to being comfortable in life.
