Next month, Milk! Records, the Aussie label best known as the home to Courtney Barnett and all of her mates, will release a new label compilation titled Good For You, featuring tracks from Jen Cloher, Fraser A Gorman, and Barnett herself.

Barnett’s contribution to the album has now been unveiled and it might just be the most ‘Courtney Barnett’ Courtney Barnett track that the critically acclaimed, young singer-songwriter has ever released. It’s called ‘Three Packs a Day’.

While it may sound like an ode to having a sneaky dart, it’s actually about Barnett’s love of ramen noodles. Cheeky wordplay? Check. Mundane subject matter enlivened by a poetic dissection done in an Aussie drawl? Double check.

That MSG tastes good to me / I disagree with all your warnings”, Barnett sings on the track, which readers can check out below, ahead of the album’s 14th February release. “It can’t be true / That they use glue to keep the noodles stuck together”.
