Responding to the ongoing controversy surrounding national embarrassments Sam Newman and Eddie McGuire, Melbourne rockers The Pretty Littles have taken to Facebook to reveal they’ve penned a song about “redneck[s]” like Eddie and Sam.

“We have a song called ‘Sams Mob’ [sic] on the new album,” the band write on Facebook. “It is about this fella and fellas like him and the unwavering support they seem to have because they kicked a footy good a million years ago.”

“Whether you think Eddie’s comments were gendered or not, they were innately violent and were a gross insight into the redneck majority of Australia. A mob of boys slapping each other on the back while having a dig at the weaker party who wasn’t even there!”

“AFL is an absolute fishbowl and its merit as ‘news’ is an unfortunate reality,” they continue. “Just how threatened these fellas are by Caro as an investigative journalist is fantastic. Pack of cowards. All Of ‘Em.”

McGuire came under fire this week after making a series of comments during the Big Freeze fundraiser event aimed at journalist Caroline Wilson. After participating in the event, McGuire joked that he would like to see Wilson drowned.

Newman later upped the misogyny ante on The Footy Show, addressing Wilson during a rant in which he quipped, “The jig’s up Caro, honestly and truly. You’re becoming an embarrassment. And even if you were underwater, you’d still be talking.”

Meanwhile, The Pretty Littles’ new album is set to drop in September. We got a taste of what to expect from the LP back in March when the band unveiled the blistering, fuzz-laden pop sensibilities of ‘Pride’.
