Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds have unveiled the first track to be taken from their powerful new album, Skeleton Tree, set to be released next week. The band have shared live performance footage of the haunting new song ‘Jesus Alone’.

The footage is taken from director Andrew Dominik’s new 3D black and white feature film One More Time With Feeling. The film will screen for one night only in more than 650 cinemas across the world on 8th September.

Meanwhile, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds’ 16th studio album drops globally on 9th September. The follow-up to 2013’s Push the Sky Away is available for pre-order now via the official Nick Cave website, where you can also purchase tickets for One More Time With Feeling.

The project combines performance footage and interviews, exploring the tragic event that led to the creation of the new album – the death of Cave’s 15-year-old son, Arthur, who lost his life last year after falling from a cliff top in Brighton.

Skeleton Tree is said to be a vivid examination of the grief the Australian music icon experienced in the wake of the tragic loss and ‘Jesus Alone’ provides a harrowing insight into the mind of one of Australia’s greatest songwriters as he processed this loss.

You fell from the sky / Crash landed in a field near the River Adur / Flowers spring from the ground / Lambs burst from the wombs of their mothers“, Cave sings on the track. Watch the video in the embed below.
