Squished somewhere between Los Angeles and San Diego, slack-rockers Tomorrows Tulips are heading back down under to tour their third album, released locally via Stange Yonder.

Born and bred off the southern California coast, the duo are keeping the fine tradition of slightly bummed, slightly happy, slightly outta tune and slightly crafty underground psych rock music alive. They’re more than 90’s revivalists, they are happening now.

We chatted with Alex Knost the band’s vocalist guitarist ahead of their Aussie visit, to find out who he reckons are the greatest psych bands of all time.

The national tour officially kicks tomorrow with their first show at The Tote. For tickets and info visit www.strangeyonder.com.au.

The Velvet Underground

“These guys changed my life I was 17, heard a few of their “hits” prior but it was on a trip to an island off India, a friend loaned me his iPod and headphones, and on a nightly basis I’d lie in bed and listen to the box set of rarities and demos over and over , I went home and dove into music.”

Pink Floyd

“I never really was a ‘Floyd fan in the post Barrett era, but ford peeled the ignorance off my head and introduced me to the world of David Gilmour, meddle and atom mother heart are insane.”

Spaceman 3

“Repetition takes courage, and or altered states of mind, taking drugs to make music to take drugs to, is an album that demonstrates that sort of sonic genius”

The Stooges

“Their debut album is outa sight, seemed like a fork in the road, still is. ‘No Fun’ is my favourite track.”

Sonic Youth

“Their albums that sound like art school on another planet, and everyone makes Hendrix sculptures out of found objects , made in USA, is one of my favourite.”

Further

“Further are 90s dudes with attitude, I’m their fan, the same way they were Dinosaur Jr fans.”
