Tekashi 6ix9ine has postponed the release of his upcoming single ‘Trollz’. ‘Trollz’ will follow the rapper’s record-breaking comeback single ‘GOOBA’, his first new music since being released from prison in April.

6ix9ine isn’t known for his humility. Since his early release from prison in April, the New York rapper’s Instagram feed has been awash with alpha-male boasts and videos of his vast wealth. But in a rare instance of reading the room, 6ix9ine has decided to withhold his upcoming single ‘Trollz’ until Friday, June 12th.

‘Trollz’ was originally slated for May 22nd – just two weeks after ‘GOOBA’ – but it was pushed back and officially confirmed for Friday, May 29th. That date came and went and June 5th was floated as the new release date. However, given the ongoing and incredibly sobering protests around the USA, 6ix9ine acknowledges the timing isn’t right.

“It’s not the time for a music video right now with everything going on in the world,” he wrote on Instagram. “It will be extremely selfish.” He’s nominated Friday, June 12th as the new release date, although it’s hard to imagine things being resolved by then.

6ix9ine was released from prison on April 2nd; approximately four months ahead of schedule. He was arrested in November 2018 and pled guilty to nine charges in February 2019. His guilty plea covered armed robbery and conspiracy to murder, and he also agreed to cooperate with prosectors and testify against his co-defendants.

He was handed a two-year sentence on December 18th, 2019. He’d already served 13 months and was due out in November 2020. His release date was then moved forward to August 2020, but he was granted early release on account of his asthma following the outbreak of COVID-19.

‘GOOBA’ came out on May 8th and  debuted at number three in the US Billboard Hot 100. 6ix9ine claims it was on track to debut at number one until a last minute surge from Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber’s ‘Stuck With U’. This led him to accuse both Billboard and Grande of corruption.
