Los Angeles rapper Game (formerly The Game) has come under fire from female fans and anti-violence groups after footage emerged of him spitting on fans in the Gold Coast and of him groping and pressuring a fan in Adelaide to take her top off.
The first footage from Adelaide, uncovered by Ninemsn, shows Game and his entourage groping a female fan who is clearly uncomfortable and pressuring her to show her breasts on stage. “Show us your t—ies,” The Game yells several times, prompting cheers from the audience.
After the woman refuses, fellow rapper Kid Red approaches her and tries to remove her top himself and she is forced to repeatedly pull him off her. Game then yells at the woman before Red literally pushes the woman off the stage into the crowd below.
“In the scene where those guys pressure her to take her top off, they’re supported by the audience,” says Dr Michael Flood, an ambassador for anti-violence group White Ribbon who believes that the behaviour of the rappers further legitimised a negative attitude towards women.
“What these are symptoms of is a style of hip hop based on the objectification of women and hostility towards women. The Game is one of a number of rappers who portray women as sexual objects.”
The incident is just another in a long list from Game’s recent Australian tour. At the same show police were called in after a fight broke out when a member of Game’s entourage tried to seduce a girl who’s boyfriend was also in attendance. Ambulances were called but the parties refused to press charges or seek medical treatment.
Footage has also emerged of Game at Bourbon Bar nightclub on the Gold Coast during his tour spitting on a group of young female fans after they tried to get his attention. The 19-year-old girl who shot the footage says she was disgusted by the rapper’s behaviour and that she didn’t hear the girl next to her say anything to provoke him.
“I was like, ‘whoa’. At first I wasn’t sure if he was spitting at me,” she said. “He was sitting there drinking. We were all a bit drunk. I think they were just excited to see him.”
A flood of negative messages have been sent to the rapper on Twitter with many expressing their dismay at his apparent attitude towards women. Game responded to the controversy this morning by tweeting out:
