Legendary guitarist Slash has tried his luck on BBC’s Top Gear over the weekend where he appeared on the popular car show to promote the upcoming release of his new album, Apocalyptic Love, due for release May 22th.

Slash will also be inducted in a few weeks alongside his former bandmates in Guns N Roses into the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame, an induction that sent tongues wagging at the possibility that one of longest running feuds in music could finally be put to rest.

Slash said he’d be open to a reconciliation with frontman Axl Rose opening the door that the members might play at the induction ceremony, but comments by Axl and Duff McKagan seem to have put that rumour to bed.

A good part of the interview on Top Gear was spent discussing, you guessed it, cars where the former Guns N Roses member revealed, “My first car, that I paid for with my own money, was a Honda CRX. It was a cool looking little car. And then I gave it to my brother and I got a 1996 427 Corvette Coupe.”

The discussion then turned to the various models of Aston Martin’s Slash has owned, a brand he has been obsessed since he was a kid watching James Bond, before it was time for him to try his luck doing a timed lap for the segment “Star In A Reasonably Priced Car”.

“It was actually pretty tricky when I first got there,” Slash admitted to Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson with the track difficult to navigate following heavy showers in Britain.

“The way your track’s laid out, it’s like it’s not really there,” he continued. “It’s sort of made up! It’s got all kinds of turns and stuff that are sort of pencilled in! It was an interesting day.”

So how did he go? Watch the video below to find out. One thing we can tell you though is that he did beat fellow rock alumni Alice Cooper, although given Cooper’s snail pace around the track that isn’t really something to write home about.
