Australia’s booming pop-punk scene has thrown out some magnificent releases in the last few years. Unfortunately, the popularity of larger bands has paved the way for poor imitations left, right and centre with few surprises left in store for fans of the genre.

Build From Design is a rare release in its separation from the norm.  Maintaining the catchy hooks that are now synonymous with the genre, Oh Pacific have designed an uplifting, ethereal style of songwriting that is enough to give this 6-track EP its own legs to stand on.

Opener ‘105’ is an energetic prelude with a killer opening passage. The short and sweet ‘This Isn’t’ is solid and flows into a soaring interlude. ‘Anaesthetic’ is emotive and gripping with a few big moments and is probably the strongest track on the release.

Likely single ‘2 – Nil’ is infectiously catchy and the closing track ‘Find The Time, All The Time’ is ballsy with some cool interchanging vocal passages. As a whole, the songs all mesh well and every song has its place on the short release.

The recording quality definitely falls short in a few areas and some transitions don’t flow as smoothly as they should, but this is an exciting and promising debut that should spark interest in this young quartet.
