With support from the Contemporary Music Touring Program, BENJALU are set to clock up the miles (and waves) on an extensive National tour in support of their new EP, “Way to the Coast”.
Fast becoming firm favourites on the live circuit, BENJALU have gained a reputation for their infectious melodies & dynamic energy on stage. Fusing together folk, blues/roots, reggae & rock, the past year has seen the Newcastle five-piece go down a treat at the Byron Bay Blues Festival, Peats Ridge, Festival of the Sun & Woodford Folk Festival – as well as snap up support slots for Ash Grunwald, The Living End, Kate Miller-Heidke, Katchafire (NZ), State Radio (USA), Marshall & The Fro, Jon Stevens, Ross Wilson and more…
Since their 2006 win in the Statewide school band competition, Youthrock ’06 (taking $10,000 in prizes, along with the “Silverchair Songwriting Award”), BENJALU went on to release 3 EPs – selling over 10,000 cds – while picking up radio airplay through Triple J, ABC Radio & FBI. More awards were won for ‘Best Blues and Roots’ act and ‘Best Young Talent’ at the 2010 ABC Newcastle Awards, and a 14 date Canadian tour followed (including a NXNE performance).
To coincide with their forthcoming National tour, the band will release their new EP “Way To The Coast” on September 15 through Green Distribution (produced by ARIA Hall of Famer Tim Powles). A debut album is in the pipeline, set for release in 2013.
