Heavy breathy, sho-op woo-hoos and sharp hi-hat taps – “Magic Shoes” is the perfect start to The 80 Aces EP.
This killer combo in the first track and lead single is magnetic and begs your pulse to keep up with its frenetic pace. It’s a shame that this momentum isn’t carried throughout.
The bar the band sets after this first track is high and needs an equally or more upbeat song to keep the momentum going. But you can feel your pulse slow when track two, “Never Going Home”, begins.
“Girl From The Future” is a hidden gem, smack bang in the middle of the EP where the less-impressive tracks usually reside. But after the first listen it’s hard not to “ba-bow” along with the guitar riff and get the full body rock happening.
Think of this EP like a teenage boy having sex – super keen and surprisingly impressive in patches, but just isn’t quite prepared to bring it home.
