Indie folk darlings, Julia and the Deep Sea Sirens have resurfaced and are set to release the enchanting new single, Little Surprises, lifted from their forthcoming debut album “Family Pets” – set for a formal release later this year.

Canberra-based chanteuse Julia Johnson has been performing with her band the Deep Sea Sirens since 2005. Known for her intimate and dynamic live performances, Julia has been compared to the likes of Sarah Blasko and Joni Mitchell.

Little Surprises saw the outfit Unearthed through national youth broadcaster Triple J, scoring an exclusive masterclass with the likes of Gotye and Adalita as part of the inaugural Sound Summit 2012.

Conceived in the most extraordinary and painful of personal circumstances, Little Surprises swims in a sea of beautifully developed instrumental arrangements, equal parts sadness and joy, it is Julia’s not-so-secret weapon of a voice that ties it all together.

Julia, her 36 string autoharp, banjo and 7 piece band have recently supported the likes of Australian music icons Tim Rogers (You Am I), Lanie Lane and Kate Miller-Heidke. No strangers to the Australian festival circuit, Julia and her Sea Sirens have been invited to perform at numerous shows including The National Folk Festival, Viva La Gong and Corinbank, to name a few.

Recorded to tape at Linear Recording Studios in Sydney (Josh Pyke, Empire of the Sun) vintage recording technology was used to give the single and forthcoming album an authentic, analogue feel. Little Surprises is available for free download from soundcloud for a limited time.
