This Melbourne duo certainly keep a low profile. First entering the music scene in 2007 with their single “The Way,” they briefly resurfaced in 2009 and 2011 to release tracks “Good News” and “Kitty Kat” respectively.

For those who’ve been holding out for the next Avalanches album for the last 11 years, The Way might provide some consolation in the interim with its fun mixes.

Take for example “Good News”, which features turntablism, samples of spoken word and children singing, funky loops, soul keys, and a steady beat. There’s so much going on it’s hard to keep up, but it all works together and is worthy of a good boogie down.

While there is the elaborate mixing and salute to the psychedelic 60s on“Good News” and title track, the main bulk of the album is a time travel back into the 80s.

There’s plenty of rap, hip hop, and beats to keep nostalgic ears happy – particularly on tracks like “Don’t Stop” and “2 Focus.”

Their infectious groove and sense of the celebratory seems perfect for the Summer festival season, but unfortunately for fans, Record Producer take no interviews and still claim Homebake 2009 as their only ever live appearance – a strategy that is more annoying than coolly mysterious.

Blending so many different sounds, their music breeds the optimism and excitement that is synonymous with good times in the sunshine, and it’s a shame we won’t be seeing them do the rounds over the next few months.

Then again, if enough people catch on to their work, perhaps Record Producer will have a change of heart…
