Tokyo Denmark Sweden, a three-piece band from Sydney, deliver atmospheric indie-electronic-pop that earns for the dancefloor on their self-titled debut EP.

Led by Amy Pes’ powerful and soaring vocals, the band is backed by layered synth sounds and driving drum beats.

EP opener ‘When It Breaks’ is an infectious, upbeat pop song that is reminiscent of electro-pop stalwarts Metric and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, with powerful female vocals, jittery guitars, and dramatic synths.

‘Lights Off’ combines Pes’ playful and undeniable vocals with fuzzy synths to produce a dancefloor ready track that will remain in your head long after first listen.

‘Paper Sails’ provides the most melancholic moment of the EP, while still delivering enjoyable indie pop.

Piano  sounds are complemented wonderfully with eclectic synth sounds, creating an interesting and entirely enjoyable listen. The song is also benefited by contrasting lyrics to the happy sounds, with the likes of “I let you run, I let you slip away”.

EP closer ‘Little Quarters’, released earlier this year and already gaining airplay on Triple J, is an explosive number, with an abundance of dance hooks and sing-a-long moments, impossible not to enjoy.

Tokyo Denmark Sweden are fast rising up in the ranks of the Australian indie dance scene, and on their debut EP, they prove that this is entirely deserved.
