Way Of The Eagle – Rattlesnake Feat. Dan Sultan
Honestly what’s not to love about producer and composer Jan Skubiszewski? With a string of amazing writing credits and projects like Jackson Jackson, it’s no surprise that his latest project Way of The Eagle is a collaboration album comprising of singers and songwriters from all over the world, with the first track ‘Rattlesnake’ featuring rock/soul singer Dan Sultan, which boasts all of Skubiszewski’s trademark beats, grooves and handclaps. Of course Dan Sultan’s vocal delivery and lyrics do not disappoint either.
Carrie Phillis and the Downtown Three – Spend It With You
If the Ronettes were fronted by Bethany Consentino of Best Coast and spent a lot of time in garages in the early 90s, you might find yourself listening to the beautiful cocktail of sounds that is Carrie Phillis and the Downtown Three. ‘Spend It With You’ sounds oh-so very 60s with its harmonies and boppy melody, but Phillis breaks out with a raspy yet cool sing-along, that is a fun and promising ditty off their self-titled debut EP. Catchy as hell, guys!
TJ Quinton – What is Real
Laden with intricate 12-string guitar fingerpicking and ominous piano chords, T.J. Quinton has carved out a dark niche for himself in Australian roots music with this single from his debut album Sorry Business. Creating a mesmerising atmosphere with only two instruments at his disposal is a testament to the powerful organic acoustic sound the Brisbanite has harnessed as a burgeoning artist. Catch TJ on tour this April and May.
Mount Kimbie – Made To Stay
Electro-duo Mount Kimbie are back with their new tap-tastic track. In true Kimbie style, this cut’ll have you moving, shaking, and anticipating its climax. After the success of 2010’s Crooks & Lovers, fans have had three long years of thumb twiddling to prepare for next month’s release Cold Spring Fault Less Youth. Here’s hoping the rest of the album follows suit.
Deerhunter – Monomania
They’re back! It’s been three long years since we’ve had some sweet, noisy jams from the Atlanta outfit. Rife with wah-wahs and holier than thou guitar riffs, ‘Monomania’ is the first cut off the band’s upcoming release of the same name. The record is out May 7th, so mark your calendars and start counting down the days!
Kids With Teeth – Demons
Adelaide two-piece with one of the best band names ever, Kids With Teeth have dropped a new track ‘Demons’, which is dark and broody – like the title. The track opens with a killer guitar line that sounds almost like bass, which sets up the perfect atmospheric melody for the eerie and grungy vocals that meander into the chorus (“Demons are following me!”), which is repetitive and catchy but in a good way.
Katy Steele – Fire Me Up
You’ll immediately recognise Katy Steele’s trademark vocals from her front-woman duties in Little Birdy. Now venturing outside the four-piece and into solo territory, Steele seems completely comfortable on her own. “Fire Me Up” is the burning first track from her forthcoming EP and it’s an infectious piece of pop fit for endless plays on the radio, classed by the powerful confidence firing in her unshakeable voice.
Chasm – Oo La La La ft. Ozi Batla
Chasm has landed! The first single from his Diamond Cuts EP is a funky little track call ‘Oo La La La’, which has an all-star hip hop cast including the smooth hooky vocals of Rachael Berry and lyrical verse from Ozi Batla (of The Herd). This track hits the spot and has you shakin’ your booty and groovin’ all the way to the dance floor and adding to the handclaps already on the recording.
