Mt. Warning has played one gig to date in Sydney which the Sydney Morning Herald described as “Impressive”.
Now there seems to be a tonne of dates coming up, both locally and overseas.
Prior to the recent announcement that they will be the support for the incredible The Temper Trap on their upcoming Melbourne and Sydney dates, late April/May, Mt Warning are also lined up as openers on The Rubens’ tour in April at the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Toowoomba.
Internationally, Mt. Warning has scored a major coup for any new band, being added to the Field Day Festival in London’s Victoria Park on 25th May. There they will join the likes of Bat For Lashes, Animal Collective, Django Django and many more.
Mt. Warning will also be included on the Field Day compilation of bands playing at the festival, released via Rough Trade on 14th April. Mt. Warning’s Mikey Bee, who hails from the North Coast of NSW, was playing a solo show last year when filmmaker Taylor Steele happened to be in the audience, intrigued by the performance.
The filmmaker approached the musician with a question, “how would a song sound from a man sinking into the ocean?” Together, a discovery of new music was explored. The outcome is an exchange of ideas – which became Mt. Warning. ‘Burn Again’, the first song to leak out, eats away at you ever so slowly, cleverly building into a sombre but awe inspiring listen.
“Similar in style and structure to something by The National or Sigur Ros… ‘Burn Again’ grows and develops like a good novel that you just can’t stop reading” Fasterlouder. Richard Kingsmill, from national broadcaster, Triple J, debuted the first single “Forward Miles” on his 2013 programme on Easter Sunday.
Mt. Warning says of the single “’Forward Miles’ begins a journey, where dreams are so clear and tangible, there’s a need to put distance between yourself and the things you know, and to do it alone. It’s an innocent, selfish-romantic song”.
