Having worked with Leo Abrahams on the Brian Eno led Pure Scenius project, KARL HYDE once again collaborated with him on “Edgeland”, a deliberately more spontaneous and organic project compared to his work with Underworld. The album was lyrically and conceptually inspired by the city’s hinterlands and hidden corners.

“For over twenty years, my love of cityscapes has grown and grown’” explains HYDE. “The beauty of decay, tyre marks, crude graffiti, industrial noise, overheard conversations, epidemics of coffee bars & nights on the back seat being driven through cities by drivers who never sleep. A celebration of people’s idiosyncrasies, mapping out my journeys with the stories they tell, edgelands where city meets scrub, where ragged ponies grazed annexed fields and the air smells chemical.

Having worked together since 1980, Rick Smith and KARL HYDE formed the seminal electronic act Underworld in 1987 making ‘dancefloor anthems’ as well as turning their production skills to making soundtracks for films by Danny Boyle and Anthony Minghella, score theatre pieces for the National Theatre and National Theatre of Scotland  and moast recently the soundtrack to the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games. Continuing to work as Underworld the pair have also decided dabble in some solo journeys too.

KARL HYDE makes his solo debut in an exclusive Vivid LIVE presentation of ‘Edgeland’ performed in full alongside a selection of Underworld rarities and classics on Monday 27th May at the Sydney Opera House, but if you can’t wait that long to hear the collection of his works the album will be out Friday 19th April through Universal Music Australia.
