Rolling Stone Australia magazine is paying tribute to their front covers from the years 1972 to 2010 for the first time in Australian history with an exhibition, which is simply titled Rolling Stone: The Covers.
Set out in Yarra Ranges Regional Museum in Lilydale the exhibition runs from 20th April to 7th July this year, displaying 150 of the magazine’s covers spanning over 40 years.
Kristen Fiztpatrick, the exhibition’s curator has emphasised the cultural importance of showcasing the magazine’s best covers, “this exhibition chronicles the evolution of our cultural landscape and will trigger nostalgic memories of significant moments in the history of rock ‘n roll, and their associated personal memories for all that come to view it.”
The cover of Rolling Stone magazine is a cultural icon, graced by everyone from politicians to pop stars. An iconic original masthead designed by pyschedelic artist Rick Griffin, coupled with captivating images from legends like Annie Leibovitz and Ralph Steadman, has positioned the magazine as the reference point of popular culture. This exhibition showcases a selection of covers from over four decades of Rolling Stone Australia.
