Dawn – a battalion of neo-Victorian musical renegades led by Australian/Canadian chanteuse Kimberley Dawn Lysons – are gearing up for their national album-launch tour kicking off in Brisbane on June 1st.

This musical collective only truly burst onto the scene when their lead singer returned after 6 months in Canada to debut with the full band at Woodford Folk Festival 2012/2013.

What a debut it was! In only 6 months, Dawn have supported Jeff Martin on his national solo tour December 2012, performed at a feature act at an internationally renowned folk festival, supported The Tea Party’s recent national tour March 2013, featured on Triple J- Roots N All, featured on Canadian CBC NEWS in February 2013 with their music used as inspiration to choreograph an “East meets West” dance production in Edmonton, Alberta, and will have their debut album launched across the country on May 17th this year!

Jeff Martin has been working with Dawn for the past 12 months on her debut album The Spinning Jenny– the product of an unlikely artist/producer collaboration between a playful folk and world music singer and the dark and brooding Tea Party frontman.

Although The Spinning Jenny is Dawn’s first album, Lysons’ lyrics display remarkable power and depth. Each of the album’s original songs is a fully-conceived story or “spell”, blending graceful melodies and poetic lyrics to convey true, intelligent emotion. Whether she’s describing the slow burn of love, the loss of childhood or the irresistible lure of shadows in the night, Dawn plays with rhythm, metaphors, and sound – including the cawing of ravens – to carry us away with her.

Joining Dawn are her faithful, fellow renegades. A high-energy ensemble that delivers ethereal vocals, intricately textured sound and an exotic “East meets West” neo-Victorian aesthetic. Alongside singer-songwriter Kimberley Dawn Lysons are Andrew Yeldham on Guitar; Brenton Page on Bass; Nathan Moore on Drums; Lauren Mackay on Vocals and Keys; Luke Moller on Violin (Select Shows), Stirling Gill-Chambers on Violin and Mandolin and Brent Moetara on Blues Harp (select shows).

Don’t miss Dawn as they head out on their first major-name-making trek.
