The second EP from indie group Place Of Indigo is a nice mixture of melodic harmonies and post punk guitar riffs and has a general feel of coming right out of the nineties.
Opening track ‘Kaleidoscope’ has a very U2 kind of vibe to it, Sam Joyce’s vocals sending us into a swirling vortex of sound and colour as it swoons and caresses the listener’s ears.
Each track brings something unique to the table, but the theme of illumination is present throughout, a bit obvious, of course, thanks to the name of the release. It’s an eye opener of sorts, music that entrances listeners into a bewitched state that you find you’re oddly comfortable in.
Lead single ‘Shapes Shiver’ is the massive stand-out. The verses build perfectly into the chorus where everything about the song – the vocals, guitar, drum fills – clouds your mind and puts you deep into thought with its dark and edgy lyrics and melody throughout.
Even the quaint little artwork of the album adds to the overall listening experience, a black and white scene which you’ll be surprised hasn’t magically transformed into full colour as the last track comes to a close.
