Sime Nugent and Alice Keath are Sweet Jean, and together they create a lush palette of honest melodies and charming harmonies. Since first pairing in late 2010, Sweet Jean’s Nugent and Keath have built a reputation for their evocative songcraft, razor-sharp vocal harmonies and stirring live performances.

With natural ability and a well-honed catalogue, they can tug at heartstrings as capably as they can whisk you to luscious musical headspace. Aching in the best possible way.

Sweet Jean are set to release their debut album Dear Departure this July, and to celebrate they’ve announced a string of live shows to show off their new creation; starting in Oakleigh, Victoria on Friday 12th July and winding up at Thebarton in South Australia on Sunday 21st July.

The album Dear Departure will be released on July 4 2013 through Fuse Music. Co-produced with John Castle (Washington, Bamboos, The Drones, Vance Joy), the album is a collection of stories and reflections by Sime and Alice about life, longing, misadventure and mortality.

The album’s lead single ‘Tomorrow Morning’ earned a spot in Tone Deaf’s mixtape, with our scribe remarking that it “does not disappoint”. Adding that “complementary harmonies are what define this Melbourne duo… With a sound as fresh as a dewy meadow full of lilting expansive strings and tinkering piano, even the mellowest of folk fans will be hightailing it pronto to the closest record store.”
