Following on from the recent success of the Melbourne Community Cup 2013, with the football and music event drawing its biggest ever crowds, who witnessed a draw between the Megahertz and the Espy Rockdogs for the second year running and the third time ever in the annual event’s 16-year history – Sydney is now getting its turn.

Following its launch in March 2012, they Sydney Reclink Community Cup will take place at Marrickville’s Henspon Park on Sunday 25th August with musical entertainment and the all-important Aussie rules clash between the Sydney Sailors and the Western Walers.

Now the player roster for the two teams has been revealed for the 2013 Sydney Community Cup, featuring a list of local musicians squaring off against identities from the music industry, as TheMusic reports.

The musical Western Walers will see their ranks filled with Cec Condon and Jed Kurzel from The Mess Hall, Mark Evans – formerly of AC/DC, Danny Cusack of The Turps, Dave Shaw of The Stems, Smudge’s Adam Yee, Cogel’s Nick Langley and other local musos along with representatives from APRA, Sounds Australia, Ivy League, Mark Smithers of the Annandale Hotel and more. The player roster for the two teams has been revealed… featuring a list of local musicians squaring off against [the] music industry.

They’ll be attempting to wrest the cup from defending champions the Sydney Sailors, who will once again be led by ABC Radio’s Adam Spencer, returning Triple J Breakfast co-host Alex Dyson, and industry figures such as Mess & Noise‘s Max Easton, Nick Walker of Fairfax, and a large contingent of players pooled from Sydney radio stations FBi, 2SER, and others (the full team lists can be viewed below).

The Sailors claimed victory with a nine point lead over the Western Walers in the inaugural 2012 Sydney Community Cup, with pre-match sets and a half time show from the likes of The Meanies, The Celibate Rifles, and The Wolfpack (replacing Front End Loader, benched due to injury).

The music lineup for the 2013 Sydney Community Cup is yet to be announced, but there will be a number of events leading up to the 25th August kick-off, including the official launch at The Vic In Enmore from 6pm on Thursday 8th August, featuring a performance from Front End Loader’s Bow & Davis.

Across town at The Marlborough, Mezko and Melodie Nelson will also perform the first of three free entry fundraising gigs for the Community Cup. The second, featuring Little Lovers and Restless Leg will take place on Thursday 15th August, followed by Toby Martin and Sam Shinazzi the following Thursday 22nd August.

The 2013 Sydney Community Cup will then take place on Sunday 25th August where the Sailors and the Walers will take part in the central footy face-off. Entry is a single gold coin donation, with all proceeds going to Reclink, a community organisation that provides sport and arts programs to enrich the lives of disadvantaged individuals.

This year the Melbourne Community Cup raised more than $100,000 for Reclink along with live sets from Beasts of Bourbon, Tim Rogers, and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, and the similarly modelled Sydney edition looks set for another day of fundraising fun, footy, and music.
