The I, A Man Australian Tour 2013 expands with the release of the band’s new music video for their latest single, ‘Less Travelled’, the first taste from the band’s debut album.
The band are celebrating the release of the track and its video – a collection of 70s, 80s, and 90s Super-8 footage – with a short East Coast run of shows, which kicked off in their hometown of Melbourne and takes them to Adelaide, Sydney, and Brisbane.
Now the band have announced more shows for September and October when the band join Canada’s Yukon Blonde for their return to Australia, and then as support for Newcastle’s Seabellies for their single tour.
I, a Man is the sound of four guys from Melbourne, trying to figure things out together. Employing familiar musical tools and a classic sense of songcraft, they take in elements of droning folk, swirling krautrock, dream pop and all the woolly ideas in between and present them with an understated yet hypnotic and textured dialogue.
They began to figure things out with 2011’s debut recording Fifteen Thirty-Three, released through their own label, We Swimmers. They quickly followed up with their next release, You’re Boring Us All – distributed by Shock in early 2012 – which further cemented their organic blend of the cerebral with the instinctual, helping steer them through a series of tours and a handful of festival slots.
Next came the prospect of a full-length album, so the band escaped to rural Australia to isolate themselves and further expand their creativity. After international jaunts and more time in country Victoria the band reached a decision upon 11 tracks, returning to Melbourne’s The Alamo studio to once again work with long-time production team Tim O’Halloran and Dave Williamson, and this time enlisting the mixing skills of Tim Whitten (The Go Betweens, Augie March, Art of Fighting), to put the final touches on what has become the band’s debut LP.
‘Less Travelled’ is the first single lifted from the yet-to-be-released record, due for release in early 2014, and I, a Man will embark on an east tour to coincide with the release of the single.
