The first acts of AWME 2013 have been announced and as AWME (Australasian Worldwide Music Expo) enters its sixth year, it will once again showcase a huge lineup of global roots music with 50 world-class artists performing over four days and nights from 14th to 17th of November.
AMWE 2013 is thrilled to announce this year’s music program will feature Melbourne’s own energetic funk-soul ensemble, the Melbourne Ska Orchestra, New Zealand’s talented soul singer Hollie Smith, the funky grooves of Sola Rosa (NZ), multi-talented Indigenous trailblazer Stephen Pigram, working-class hero and one of the great Irish singers of his generation, Damien Dempsey, cosmic cross-culture rock act The Cambodian Space Project (Cambodia/Australia) and master of Ethiopian soul, jazz and world music Dereb The Ambassador (Ethiopia/Australia) amongst many others.
Joining them on the bill will be: Coloured Stone, Knox(Fiji), The Orbweavers, The Putbacks with Emma Donovan, Grizzly Jim Lawrie, Impossible Odds, Whiri Tu Aka(NZ), Stan & The Earth Force (Vanuatu), Slip On Stereo, Maya Kamaty (Reunion Island) and Tjupurru, with many more national and international acts soon to be announced.
As well as presenting a strong public festival event, AWME also creates a platform for musicians from the region to access high profile music industry representatives from around the world. “In the last few years, AWME facilitated management deals, touring opportunities and festival spots all over the world for showcasing artists and we aim to follow that success with more of the same this year.” says AWME Director Simon Raynor. “This is an incredibly strong and diverse AWME line-up which solidifies our reputation as one of the leading music events on the annual calendar.”
This year sees the return of the popular late-night AWME Festival Club where punters, musicians, and industry representatives can get-down to a specially curated selection of some of the finest local and international DJ talents, playing well into the early hours of the morning at the Lounge. An impressive lineup of music merchants will be spinning everything from soul, funk, Latin and foundation reggae, to golden era hip-hop, tropical African disco, and foot-stomping rhythm and blues.
AWME will also be announcing the inclusion of some high profile keynote speakers as part of this year’s Conference Program. The sessions will provide a glimpse at the underbelly of the music industry, with candid tales from some of the figureheads of the scene.
AWME 2013 will take place from 14th – 17th November at Arts Centre Melbourne, The HiFi, The Toff, and Ding Dong Lounge. Tickets for all concerts will be on sale soon!
