2014 is already shaping up to be a great year for touring in Australia. Now it appears we can add Australia’s favourite psych-rockers The Dandy Warhols to the list for a tour sometime next year.
The Portland four-piece have spent the last year celebrating the thirteenth anniversary of their seminal album Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia, performing anniversary shows across America, including a special series of gigs in Portland that saw the group performing each of the album’s thirteen tracks in thirteen different locations around downtown.
Australia has been noticeably absent for the celebrations, however a tweet from the The Dnady Warhols has confirmed that the group haven’t forgotten about Australia.

Their last tour was in 2012 as part of the Harvest Festival tour, with a handful of headline shows with Silversun Pickups. Tone Deaf reviewer Kirsten McGregor was less than impressed with their performance in Adelaide. “The foursome stumbled on stage in true rock star fashion: drunk, drugged and ready for rehab,” she wrote at the time.
“The set could only be described as musically bipolar. While classics “Bohemian Like You” and “Get Off” reminded audiences of the Dandy’s they know and love; newbies like “The Autumn Carnival” and “When They’re Gone” overshadowed the good moments, and quite poorly at that. To some, their exit may have been responded to with a sigh of relief.”
But as keyboardist Zia McCabe revealed in an interview with Tone Deaf last year, the band take it all on their chins. “Our creed, our motto for being able to get through life on the road and just life in general is ‘when it’s good it’s fun, and when it’s bad it’s funny’, she revealed.
“That’s really one of the main things that’s gotten us through, trying to not get hung up on the frustrating times and try and keep a good sense of humour on how bumpy life can be.”
There’s no word yet on what the group have in store for Australian audiences this time around, although there is a special connection between down under and Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia, with a special edition of the album, titled Seven Tales for Urban Australia, being released during a previous Australian tour.
This year the group have also released a remastered version of the album called the 13th Anniversary Edition, featuring a bonus disc of previously unreleased material, and they’ve been filming their gigs around Portland for a special DVD, whose trailer you can watch below.
