MGMT are returning to the country that first treated them as superstars, in just a few short weeks. Once upon a time they were booked by the prescient blokes from the Meredith Festival to play there back in 2008 – only to suddenly become one of the hottest bands in the world in the meantime.

Cue a scramble for tickets and they moved from playing a club to a sold out gig at Festival Hall and then flitted off to be superstars. Well, they’re back, and playing a one off gig at Sydney’s 1200 seater Metro Theatre. The gig – which will no doubt sell out in seconds and have tickets selling for $500 each is on April 6th.

It’s in support of their new album Congratulations which is due out a week later. Tone Deaf has had a listen to some of the tracks from it and while we love the Roxy Music direction, it should hopefully lose quite a few of their bogan fans on the way.

We’d also hate to be party to a rumour, but Melbourne fans should also keep their diaries free. While the Sydney show is the ONLY one in the country at this stage, now is the time to make friends with the staff at Ding Dong Lounge….
