After being catapulted to fame in 2006 and then appearing to burn out with second album syndrome in which their sophomore effort didn’t reach the dizzying heights of the first, it seems that The Fratellis have called it quits. Writing on their website’s message board, frontman Jon Fratelli and bassist Barry Wallace have said they’re unlikely to record together again. “We have no plans to work together right now. Sometimes things just work out that way. Mince, Baz and I are working on music but not with each other for a while,” Lawler explained.

Wallace took his turn to look back through rose coloured glasses. “From the very first day we got together, The Fratellis never had a plan as such, we knew we were good, we knew we had a chance to make it,” he said. “Turns out we were right, everything fell into place and we’ve spent the last five or so years touring the world sharing this great music with you all. At this particular point in time though we’ve found ourselves making music still but just not together. This is just the way it goes I suppose sometimes.”

The front man is currently singing in Codeine Velvet Club, under his real name Jon Lawler. Reading between the lines here, it sounds like they got dropped by their record label.
