So We Can Remember is an eclectic mix of traditional raps on beats supplemented with dubstep influences and sounds comparable to that of other Australian acts Flume and Hermitude.

The boys of Thundamentals – DJ Morgs, MC Jeswon, and MC Tuka – have produced an exceptional album by using a wide range of featuring artists. By lyrically exploring different topics, they have also avoided making an album that sounds the same as every other Aussie hip hop record – a trap that many fall into.

Songs like ‘Missing You’, ‘Something I Said’, and ‘Quit My Job’ will no doubt resonate with many listeners; “I couldn’t give a toss about my shitty job / Thinking who the fuck are you, but scared I’d get the boot”.

The tracks on the album also make use of a wide range of instruments and sounds that give it a rich feeling. ‘Got Love’ is a feel-good track set to the sultry sounds of a saxophone, while ‘The Groundhog Song’ makes use of a little dubstep and a more electronic feel.

In a musical landscape where Australian hip hop artists are increasingly being support by radio stations such as Triple J as well as commercial networks, it’s important for these acts to do what they can to be heard in the crowd. With So We Can Remember, Thundamentals have succeeded in making an innovative, creative, and experimental LP that just works.
