Tone Deaf Scoop – The phenomenal response to the documentary of their reunion gigs last year No Distance Left To Run and the Record Store Day single Fools Day has led Blur to have a change of heart – there will be a new album’s worth of material after all.
Speaking to the NME for the edition that comes out in the UK tomorrow, Damon Albarn – currently touring with the Gorillaz live juggernaut, has said that the band intend to hit the studio at their own pace. “I’m definitely going to do a few more of those 7 inches and at some point in the undetermined future there will be a record at the end of it. I love the no pressure aspect. Just going in the studio and recording it in a day is something we haven’t done since the B-sides in the early days.”
Damon also noted that the single they gave to indie stores for Record Store day appeared to have made a difference, observing “It was nice to know it made a difference. I heard Rough Trade in Brick Lane usually makes £6,000 in a Saturday and it made 60 grand on that Saturday. “
The album will be their first as a four piece since 1999’s Think Tank and with luck may precipitate a proper world tour. Australian promoters, time to start hitting the phones now.
