Could this be the ultimate slacker recording? Would Stephen Malkmus and Beck be able to put down the bongs long enough to press play on the studio recording console? The two figureheads of 90s slacker pop might have been in the studio recording together. Malkmus is currently on a world tour with Pavement, the band he fronted spearheading the 90s slacker aesthetic, while Beck brought up the rear guard of the movement because he was just, well, so slack.
In an article in Mojo magazine, it was hinted that Beck had worked with Malkmus’ solo outfit The Jicks earlier this year, but the project is shrouded in mystery, with speculation that Beck produced some material, if not a whole album. With Pavement keeping Malkmus busy, the recordings aren’t expected to see light of day on his record label Matador, until 2011.
