Fans of the harder, heavier end of the spectrum aren’t exactly spoiled for choice when it comes to finding a place to call their own on Australian radio. One place metal and hard rock fans have called home has been Triple J’s The Racket radio program, currently hosted by Lochlan Watt.
The 24-year Brisbane presenter old took over the reigns from previous host, Andrew Haug, who after a decade’s work stepped down from The Racket post in 2011. But with plenty of great bands and a fiery passion for them in his belly, the former Triple J presenter has stuck to his passions launched Australia’s first and only 24/7 dedicated metal radio station.
The all-metal digital radio station is conveniently located at AndrewHaug.com, with the aim of meeting the demands from music fans all over the country who’ve been longing for their very own 24/7 station where they can mix with other loyal & dedicated fans & share their passions of all things Heavy.

One of the most important things to Haug was that the station was 100% officially licensed, “which means we Pay to Play our beloved artists,” says Haug. “I’m sure you’ll agree artists need & deserve to be paid for their amazing works we enjoy so much!”
The station remains ‘self-funded’ with no government assistance / handouts nor do they ask for any donations from the audiences. However to keep up with the day to day running costs and to take the station to the next level, Haug is now seeking to raise money through a new crowd funding venture.
“This campaign is aimed at not only keeping us on the air officially, but also to assist with many of the amazing plans we have to take Our Station to a level not quite seen in this country ever,” says Haug.

He’s seeking the very metal $6,666 to help pay for things like the webcasting licensing fees from APRA/AMCOS and PPCA, some technical equipment for the studio, website hosting and upgrades, and to assist with ongoing data usage and internet streaming costs.
So what can you get for your kind assistance? Well for the paltry sum of $120, you will get to host your own live radio show for a full hour spinning you favourite rock and metal tunes, or for $30 you can receive a t-shirt with a goodie bag full of all kinds of metal radness.
