Parliament and Funkadelic guitarist Garry Shider has died aged 56, after a battle with lung and brain cancer. Known for laying down some of the funkiest guitar lines ever committed to tape, including the white hot funk of ‘One Nation Under A Groove’, he was also renowned for his unorthodox stage garb, which usually amounted to nothing more than an adult sized nappy. Shider had played with front man George Clinton since he was a teenager, and served as musical director for both Parliament and Funkadelic. They don’t make them like him anymore. RIP.
