We all know that that whole ‘Generation Me’ thing is a myth, right? Millennials aren’t a bunch of ignorant know-nothings, wholly engrossed in their iPhones, more interested in the latest celebrity feud or who dispatched what on SnapChat.

Why, Millennials are probably just as clever as you are and like all the same things you like (we’re assuming, we don’t actually know any). They can probably debate you for hours about why The Beatles are better than the Stones and which Led Zeppelin LP is the best.

Then again, maybe not. If this recent footage that comes courtesy of Channel [V] is anything to go by, the future is in a lot of trouble. That is, unless the most pressing concern of the 21st Century will be the various phobias of the members of One Direction… or what they wear to bed.

Taking a cue from Jimmy Kimmel and his viral-prone vox pops at music festivals like SXSW and Coachella, during which he often catches out clueless hipsters with fake band names, Channel [V] recently took to the ARIA red carpet to query some eager One Direction fans.

You can check out the full clip in all of its shame and embarrassment below. The format is pretty simple to grasp, the interviewer starts by asking the fans — mostly tween girls — obscure questions about their favourite pop sensation and then follows up with some basic questions about Australian rock.

Who is the youngest member of 1D? Harry. What does Liam have a strange fear of? Spoons. Who is the leader singer of The Bad Seeds? *crickets* And the girls didn’t fare much better when asked to name a single member of Silverchair.

Now, you may think this is all just par for the course. After all, why would young people who weren’t even alive when Nick Cave formed The Bad Seeds know who he is? We couldn’t agree more. But you have to admit, it’s depressing when one of the 1D fans admits matter-of-factly, “I don’t like Australian music.”
