Royal Blood's Like A Version Proves They Absolutely Rock An Acoustic

With the traveling music circus that is Laneway Festival having finally landed on Aussie soil last week, live music fans have been treated to some epic shows both in and outside of the festival grounds, not to mention a slew of hilarious antics from the artists themselves as they traipse across our fair nation.

With today being Friday, aka Like A Version Day, one of Laneway’s most revered acts Royal Blood stopped by the Triple J studios to deliver a very different, yet totally killer rendition of Cold War Kids’ smash hit, ‘Hang Me Up To Dry’.

For their Like A Version debut, the English two-piece have switched off their usually exploding amps, Mike Kerr trading his electric sounds for an acoustic guitar, performing a rare unplugged session.

Kerr absolutely tears into the 2006 track, building anticipation as he palm mutes through the verses, his vocals brooding in a deeper registry until he crashes into the chorus, burning with full strums as he cries “so hang me up to dry“.

This is definitely a different sound for Royal Blood, the duo normally crash and bang through their blues infused garage rock tunes like ‘Figure It Out‘ and ‘Little Monster‘, and despite the lack of rumbling bass tones that shake their music, Kerr, on behalf of Royal Blood, provides all that raw intensity the band are renown for.

Royal Blood’s ‘Hang Me Up To Dry’ joins the high ranks of Laneway Festival artists that have performed this year, with Mansionair delivering a beautiful rendition of a fellow Laneway act just last week.

Sadly, Royal Blood aren’t performing any sideshows and Melbourne’s Laneway is already sold out. However if you’re in Perth, you can catch this Sunday as tickets are still available.
