After a very long day and night, The 57th Grammy Award ceremony has come to close, and despite countless predictions that Aussies would dominate the award ceremony, it appears that it was not really Australia’s year.
One of the very few Australian winners was South African born and now Melbourne-based artist Wouter Kellerman for his collaborative work with Indian producer and composer Ricky Kej for Best New Age Album of the Year.
The only other Aussie winner is Mark Landon, more formally recognised as M-Phazes, who produced ‘Bad Guy’ from Eminem’s The Marshall Mathers LP2, which won Best Rap Album, a fantastic achievement for the Aussie hiphop virtuoso. Eminem and M-Phazes beat Iggy Azalea, who’s debut record The New Classic was almost nominated for this category.
Azalea, who was nominated for multiple awards, left with no golden gramophone trophies, having also lost out in Best New Artist to the UK’s Sam Smith, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance which went to A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera ‘Say Something’.
Both Azalea and Sia lost Song of the Year and Record of the Year to Sam Smith’s ‘Stay With Me’, whilst Sia also missed out on Best Music Video and Best Pop Vocal Performance that both went to Pharrel’s ‘Happy’.
Other major award winners saw a surprised Beck take home Album of the Year and Best Rock Album for Morning Phase, St Vincent’s self-titled record awarded Best Alternative Album, Jack White scored Best Rock Performance for Lazaretto and the Best Rock Song was nabbed by Paramore’s ‘Ain’t It Fun’
In addition to this, Best Electronica/Dance Album was crowned to Aphex Twin’s Syro, Best Dance Recording went home with Clean Bandit feat. Jess Glynne for ‘Rather Be’ and Kendrick Lamar’s ‘i’ took home both Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance.

This may not be the greatest outcome for Australian music, however we are stoked to see that both M-Phazes and Wouter Kellerman have been awarded for their hard work.
And if you’re a little PO’d at the end results, just remember, there’s been many more travesties committed by The Grammys.
