What would you say if we told you one of Australia’s favourite bands right now covered another of our fair nation’s most adored songs of the past year? Something along the lines of “hell fuck yeah” – those were our words too, and courtesy of Triple J’s Like A Version, that’s exactly what we’ve all been treated to this Friday.
Aussie reggae meets indie rock Sticky Fingers, a group that casually sold out their forthcoming national tour without even announcing it, have covered fellow Sydney-siders DMA’s breakthrough Britpop anthem, ‘Delete’.
The band don’t drastically alter the track with Dylan Frost sharing a similar almost Brit-tinge to his soulful vocals. However sonically, the band add a more rounded sound introducing booming keys as well as swirling psychedelic layers, Sticky Fingers subtly making it their own for the four and-a-half minutes.

What we especially love about this Like A Version is the fact that Sticky Fingers have shown such noble camaraderie in covering a rising Aussie act like DMA’s, giving a fantastic means of promotion for the New York City-bound trio. It’s not often we see a local Australian act cover another that they are are to be honest, in direct competition with, clearly Sticky Fingers couldn’t give a shit about this and are avid fans of great local music and DMA’s. Right on, guys.
Each week we are blown away with the musical talent that stops-by the Triple J studios, 2015 has already seen some killer Like A Versions which is still topped by Hiatus Kaiyote’s incredible rework of Gorillaz, closely followed by The Bennies’ take on TISM, an amazing rendition of 2014’s biggest track by an up-and-coming group, an almost perfect cover of an indie anthem and of course, the classic rework of a ’90s hit.
